Denim Forever: Autumn-Winter Trend 2017/18

During her last Dior collection, the artistic director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, evoked navy blue as a source of inspiration with flagship denim as the essential element of the wardrobe.Above all, it’s about jeans. A timeless staple, this time revised in its rawest form. Visible seams and protruding threads play with colours and lengths while the brand of the moment, Vêtements, includes this as one of its major looks. Maison Margiela and Off-White showcase jeans worn with ‘barely-there’ tops. Saint Laurent and Dries Van Noten integrate denim into a chic wardrobe, worn by women of all ages; proof that beauty is eternal. Even when it’s acid-washed or adorned with stars and colours like in the last Wrangler collection by Peter Max.Levis understands this well, with a revamp of a collection issued from the 70s. Putting jeans back into the wardrobe is the new credo. The jacket is essential, the shirt an asset, the pants a guarantee, the whole becomes synonymous with comfort, perfection and style.Daring with a fully denim look, Raf Simons unveils one of the pioneering models during his first collection for Calvin Klein. APC goes back to basics, celebrating a timeless aesthetic, while Public School play with codes in honour of denim, forever and always.Interviews:Andreas Melbostad: I love these jeans and the tailored, sartorial mix. So like, in the jeans over here you have partly a pinstriped tailored trouser, and partly a pair of jeans in raw denim that’s cut in a very sort of slouchy, lax, masculine attitude.Sophie Mechaly: I wanted to rework the jacket in a kind of masculine way with raw denim, embellished with pearls for a look which is a little Chanel, a little Parisian, kind of chic and cool. All of this adapted for a sort of urban look.Music free of right: Bandit & Nikit
