Marni Spring Summer Collection 2014 in Milan (with interview)

The new space where the latest Marni collection is presented this Sunday morning greets us with the first surprise of the day. Due to technical problems there is no taped music so the models walk for their audience in silence, giving a very special atmosphere to the show. It was a great way to concentrate solely on the clothes and especially on the cuts and the plays of folding and clipping that Consuelo Castiglioni imagined for next summer. Emphasis is placed on the backs of open tops and on the waist encircled with an elastic belt while trousers are worn extra large. Each model sports a visor and wears platform rubber flip-flops. Light and delicate chiffon dresses have a frilled skirt. Then, flowers embroidered with pearls decorate long shift skirts and waist-length jackets, whereas floral prints, which are more part of the label’s DNA, cover the skirts and jackets.

André Leon Tally:

The most important thing was the accident of no music, she can change the course of fashion, and the show was breathtaking without taped music. The most extraordinary moment happened when there was no music and the clothes are stunning, beautiful and there’s baroque with minimalism and it was quite beautifully expressed and I think the show took a whole other level of relevancy without music and the girls walking in silence, it was very beautiful.

Renzo Rosso:

I am happy with Marni because they started to grow. Of course, I don’t touch the creativity; the creativity is down to Consuelo. I just gave them the incredible knowledge, the incredible know-how, the techniques to make this product beautiful and I think this brand has a lot of desire to become a very important brand in the future.
