Tory Burch - Womens collection Autumn/Winter 2018/19 in New York (with interview)

Designer: Tory BurchInspiration : a wink at one of Pina Bausch’s ground-breaking shows, Nelken, with a field of pink carnations for décor to welcome this new Autumn/Winter 2018 collection, which is equally inspired by the chic elegance of Lee Radziwill. Collection: light, romantic, floral. Dresses with floral prints, in silk georgette or Chinese crepe, with pierrot collars and frilled sleeves, superimposed on trousers and worn underneath a fur-lined military style coat. Foulard silk dresses also take pride of place, in a more graphic style. Paired with a mohair jumper or cardigan, noting a long jumper – a woolen poncho. Lace appears in small touches, as does denim. To note: the chocolate coloured suede trench, the propositions of new, big supple bags plus the big shearling pea coats. Interview with Tory Burch: It was femininity and super femininity but I wanted it to be balanced with a bit more ‘tomboy’ and the inspiration was Lee Radziwill and I didn’t want to be too literal of her style because she’s so incredible and I didn’t want to…but I wanted to reference it and it was taking the pink from her couch or the botanicals and then creating a print called ‘Happy Times’, and then we tried to use that throughout in different ways. We wanted it to be effortless dressing and things that really moved with ease, and it be more about lightweight fabrics, but layering and then having a really feminine flowy dress with outerwear and some more tailored pieces.
